Operation Organization: Let's tidy!

Do you have places in your home that you can't get to? Maybe your craft room is a mess, or your dining room table is always piled up with stuff. We're here to offer some suggestions for learning how to tidy your room! We'll focus on how clutter is the thief of creativity. When you're organized in your home, you'll have more space and time to relax, enjoy great moments with the important people in your life, and enjoy your hobbies.

Some of the research we've done for us to share organization tips and tricks with you, has included reading the books "The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up" by Marie Kondo and "Clutter Free" by Kathi Lipp

Author Kathi Lipp says, "Clutter keeps talking to us, weighing us down, and keeping us from living the life we were designed to live. Clutter is the co-conspirator with our fear, shame, and guilt to keep us bogged down.”

Do you ever feel that way about how clutter might be affecting your life? We've found that fact to be true with many of our customers who didn't know how to organize their craft before they found Stamp-n-Storage products. Now that they have gone through their craft stash, they know what they own and are able make the most of their investment that they've made when they purchased their great craft supplies with good intentions to use them.

Marie Kondo shares in her book, "When you've finished putting your house in order, your life will change dramatically. Once you have experienced what it's like to have a truly ordered house, you'll feel your whole world brighten. Never again will you return to clutter."

In summary, "tidying" is a series of simple actions in which objects are moved from one place to another and involves putting things away where they belong. Wouldn't it be so great to know exactly what you own and be able to put everything away as soon as you're done with it? We think so!

From our Crafted Spaces video series, the crafters whom we interviewed had a lot of great points about why it's so important to tidy and get rid of clutter. "Clutter is a creativity killer." It's a blunt quote from this third episode of Crafted Spaces, but you know it's true! Watch this episode and get some great ideas to de-clutter and tidy your room.

Here are some benefits of tidying your room according to Marie Kondo:

  • "Tidying brings visible results. Tidying never lies. The ultimate secret of success is this: If you tidy up in one shot, rather than little by little, you can dramatically change your mind-set. A change so profound that it touches your emotions will irresistibly affect your way of thinking and your lifestyle habits."
  • "When people revert to clutter no matter how much they tidy, it is not their room or their belongings but their way of thinking that is at fault. The root cause lies in the fact that they can't see the results or feel the effects. If you use the right method and concentrate your efforts on eliminating clutter thoroughly and completely within a short span of time, you'll see instant results that will empower you to keep your space in order ever after.
  • "You will never get your house in order if you only clean up halfheartedly. Tidying in the end is just a physical act. Objects can be counted. All you need to do is look at each item, one at a time, and decided whether or not to keep it and where to put it."
  • "Tidying is just a tool, not the final destination. The true goal should be to establish the lifestyle you want most once your house has been put in order."

Which type of tidying person are you?

Are you the "can't throw it away" type, "can't put it back" type, or the "first two combined" type? 90% fall into the "can't throw it away", and "can't put it back". Tidying must begin with discarding regardless of personality type.
